Set up skills training centres, companies urged

KUALA LUMPUR: Private companies are encouraged to set up training centres specialising in skills training in an effort to produce more skilled workers. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam cited landscaping as one of highly sought after skills needed by the job market. He was speaking to reporters after launching the Enrich Focus Training Centre, which conducts intensive and practical landscaping courses, here today “Our country has plenty of recreational parks and public parks besides roads which require landscaping where certified landscapists are needed. Unfortunately, we do not have enough skill manpower,” he said.

Subramaniam said the government invested RM2 billion yearly for skill training to meet the target of 50 per cent skilled workers by 2020 from 23 per cent at present.  –BERNAMA
